I was wondering if it is possible to hook a microphone directly to an amp, by using an XLR to 1/4 cable, or if it needed a preamp. Thanks.

its possible i've done it before with my old band cause we didnt have a preamp. i dont know if it was a specific kind of mic or anything but i knew it went right to the amp

i've hooked mics into amps and they're ok. they dont sound really good. it's very thin and weak.,

It will definitely work, as long as it's a dynamic mic. A condenser mic wouldn't work because it needs phantom power.

But, like the others said, it would sound bad...no highs.

It's work coz the amp has a pre and power amp. It just doesn't sound great.

Oh and +1 to it only working for dynamics.
