Im buyin a new guitar soon and cant decide on either a fender 60s strat or a gibson les paul. I got a price range up to like $750 i dont think im goin much higher than that. Anyways i already have a epiphone les paul but it doesnt cut it. I play mainly classic rock which makes me think that i should get the les paul, but my all time fav band is red hot chili peppers and john frusciante of course plays a fender strat as his main guitar. So yea im really stuck here..can somebody help me decide? Thanx.

Strat. You can't buy any les paul with 750$, except a b-stock vintage mahogany.

I like Fender Strats better but i think the Les Paul would be better for you... but if you said your other les paul didn't cut it then why get a new one? Just my opinion...

because its an epiphone and im think about getting a gibson, which i kno theyre a lot better.

Fenson Paulocaster!

Seriously, though, those two guitars are as different as night and day... this comes down to which one you like better.

a standard lp at guitar center and musicians friend (which are highly discounted prices) cost 2 grand...

in that case, save up for an epi elitist LP. You can get a used one for a grand, and they're much better than the Gibson LPs in that price range.

does that fender u have sound good with that line 6 spider III 15?
because i just bought that same amp

Les Pauls are amazing, get one.

Ok......on SS amps, both those guitars won't sound as different as they should than on a tube amp. For classic rock, you should of got a vox AD amp, but whateva, no biggie.

Now, classic rock requires both guitars. Rory Gallagher and Ritchie Blackmore played strats, but Page and Young played Gibsons. If you have an LP, get a strat. Try 'em side by side, see what you like. You know, a Gibson faded Sg is 700$. They ( SGs) have a great classic rock sound, you could go for that.

I agree with Hawk5211. A strat with a humbucker in it will be more versatile. That way you can have the best of both worlds, a bucker for heavy tone, and a single coil for a more blues-ier tone. They're both really great guitars, but its really your personal preference on which feels and sounds better.

agreed, you must try them both before buying and see whats your taste, gibson lp may not be for you or it could, i always tought that i was a LP guy with full humbuckers but when i tried it wasnt my coup of tea, then i decided to give a try to a strat and i felt in love, now i cant be happier with my american deluxe V-neck i think i wont gas any other guitar anymore or at least for a long long long time

Dude, get an ibanez. the lowest priced Prestige RG is 750 bucks, made in Japan, and more versatile than either of these guitars, the neck plays like a dream.

You can get any sound you want from the prestige RG's, and for the money, there is no better guitar than the japanese-made (Prestige) RG's.

Trust me you won't regret it.

....and if you really want to kick serious ass, put DiMarzio pickups in it, it'll scream.

happy jamming

well... if you want the sound of a gibson les paul but have an epiphone and limited budget, why dont you just get 2 gibson pickups and replace the stock epiphone ones? after buying the pickups and having someone put them in for you (if you dont know how) that should run you at about 300 tops. then you can get your guitar set up to your specifications and you'll be pretty damn close to a real gibson. granted it wont sound quite 100% like the 2 grand version but... you dont have 2 grand. and im pretty sure you'll get a better tone out of it than if you buy a HSS strat. while theyre really good guitars, they just dont have that low end bite like a les paul does which is great for the music you play.

idk, its really up to you. but its another option i thought id bring up!

good luck!

You can get a new Highway One HSS Strat (or possibly a used American Standard). Or, save up just a bit more and get the Classic Player's 60's Strat.
