So I might (keyword: might) see SMV soon!
For those who don't know who that is, SMV is the epic bass trio consisting of Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten, and Marcus Miller.
Here's a vid of them performing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrav_MSMjNs&feature=related
Awesome, aren't they? :p
Anyways, has anyone here seen them? What should I expect?
I like rap, feel free to use that as an argument against me.

Sound Academy? The stage I played last February? (Yeah, just went there )

Yeah, I'd love to go, however it's my good buddy's birthday that day. I'm good, I'm convincing, but there's no way I can convince a metal lead guitarist to see a bass playing trio for HIS birthday.

I'd love to see this too. Those three are some of my favorites.

Weren't they working on a CD? Anyone know a release date or anything?

CD was due for release yesterday I do believe. Also I am rather annoyed that they've got no dates planned for the UK. You'd think they'd at least play one or two shows here. Unless I misread the tour info on their site.

I am a "maybe" for the performance on the 26th in SF. I'm in a similar situation as Fitz, except that it involves an only "mildly" interested spouse and a wedding anniversary instead.

I say ditch the anniversary...but maybe thats why I'm single
#8
do the anniversary, but tell him to prepare something special for the date.

he just might go there just for you.

if not, he'll probably pull off something special and romantic anyways.

Actually as a side note, we're going to Sonoma. He has promised to take me to D's Diner in Sebastapol for lunch and then we'll hit the wineries afterwards.

I could probably convince him to take a side trip to SF the next day, but it would probably cost me a Neil Young or Springsteen concert in the future. I am not overly fond of either of them.

Both Marcus Miller and Stanley Clarke play the jazz club near me on a regular basis, so its not like I wouldn't have a chance to see them in the next 12 months.

K wow i saw them last night and it was insane... Me and a bunch of drunk people were rocking out and i started screaming school days at the top of my lungs and they actually looked at me and marcus said "K... This song is called School Days!" and i died. Too good and i saw a part of history right there.

It's not worth it! Nothing could be worth a Neil Young concert!

As for the SMV thing, I doubt they'd come to Winnipeg of all places and even if they did I have no money.
#12
I won't be going but got a very wonderful compensation prize as as a result, so I am not complaining.

And to be honest, it looks like Stanley Clarke and Marcus Milller may be doing solo shows early next year in my area, and I'd rather catch them as solo acts anyway. I'm not a huge fan of Wooten on his own

cool!

you know, I'll go with him to see Springsteen in your stead if you want. I like his voice.

I have a feeling he just might say yes.

Go straight to Hell, Jazzy.

Anyway, I was wondering, how many people were at the sound academy? What was the attendance in your opinion?

It was pretty much completely full, like around the venues capacity of about 3000. It was fun for a change to see a bunch of old people dancing awkwardly to jazz than a bunch of hardcore kids throwing 8 balls the whole time

Don't tell me... You like Neil Young?!

Also, are you trying to compare your band's attendance with SMVs right now?
#18
Yes Bales, he loves Uncle Neil. At least I'm American, and have an excuse for not liking Mr. Young. You're Canadian and from Winnipeg, so you have no excuse, sorry.

aren't you supposed to be kissing his ass, not hating on his musical taste?

just sayin...

^ I like Pearl Jam so I have to like Neil Young. I like his acoustic material a lot better than the electric material.

I was thinking about seeing them tomorrow in NYC, but I have no moneys.

Time for an Eddie Vedder picture!!!! Woo Hoo!!

I love Pearl Jam. I hate Neil Young. Just like I love Bela Fleck but can't really take Wooten Solo..

If your woman really loves you, she would want to make you happy and let you go see SMV! or try this, "dear, lets go to SF for the weekend, we'll get a hotel room with a romantic view", then slip out of the hotel room, tell her your going to get some champagne, and flowers(really do this),go to the concert, come back and everything will be just fine!!!!!

You need to talk to my husband. Yes...my husband. I'm a female bass player--one of the half dozen that tend to hang out with you fine guys in the bass forum.

For the record, Mr. Tam is going to get me a new tattoo and we're going to Sonoma, including a lunch to D's Diner (Who wants to go to D's Diner!?!? ME!!!!) and then we're going to have dinner at some place with a view near the coast. With wine and beer tasting the afternoon. So yeah, he ranks pretty high on my list right now. And he's the drummer in my life and in one of the bands I'm in at present. So its all cool......

You know what, as long as its remotely relevant, in the forum plan, whats the eddie vedder holding an urge II bass thing about?

Also I didn't think it was possible to like one without the other

Ok I have a thing for Eddie Vedder. Deleriumbassist gave me a homeless Eddie Vedder for Mother's day this year. I love Eddie. And I have GASed for an Urge II for a very long time.

You want another great picture of Eddie Vedder, Tams? Check out the most recent issue of Bass Player Magazine - there's a great cover story on Conan O'Brien, and the first page of the article is Conan standing with Eddie Vedder and Michael Chiklis.

And I needn't lash back at Jazzy. The eternity he'll spend in Hell is plenty. And no, I wasn't trying to compare attendances, since I was on a bill - I was just wondering if there were enough bass/jazz heads in Toronto to fill the Sound Academy.
