ok so about a month ago i was driving with my friend(im 17 btw, its illegal to drive someone if you are a minor in california) so i come to an intersection(the street is under construction btw) and i need to turn left into the parking lot of a hardware store to turn around and head back in the opposite direction. so i get in the left turn lane and im a little distracted talking to my friend and i look up and directly in front of me is a solid green light. so i figure, "go but yield if necessary" well halfway through the turn i finally notice a red arrow behind the green light. im in the middle of the f*cking intersection so i just go for it to avoid an accident. as im pulling out of the parking lot to turn right. a cop who saw the whole thing comes up and asks for my license which at the time was still that paper one and asks my age. the thing is, he absolutely ignores my friend and doesnt write anything on the ticket about it being a construction zone. the ticket just came today and i have three options:

1.pay the $366 and save my traffic school chance in case of something worse like a speeding ticket

2.pay $423 for the ticket AND traffic school

3.fight the ticket

heres a really crappy paintjob of what it looked like:

and yeah yeah i know. im a **** driver

You're a shit driver, you don't get distracted in places like a construction zone where it's heavily populated and you could really hurt someone. It's your own damned fault, pay the ticket.

i go for option 1. that seems to be the moderation. and plus he ignored your friend in the car. don't fight it or someone might notice.

i thought about that, but could the cop bring up the fact that my friend was in the car at the court date? i mean if he didnt say anything at the beginning, can he say anything later

You got away with breaking an unjust law so don't complain.

so, did it say on the ticket that your friend was a minor?
if it does, the cop ignored your friend, so for all he knows, your friend is 18...
but on the other charges, theres not much you can do.. in a construction zone
Shred Head
All that theory my guitar teacher tries to drill into my head just gets buried under piles of porn and I never manage to apply any of it

ok, there was no one working at the time. there were just a couple of cones up. the people work at night. and he didnt write anything about my friend. oh and even if he was 18 im still not allowed to drive him. the other person has to be 25 years or older

By letter of the law, you're guilty, man. There's nothing you can do, regardless if there was no one. It's a construction zone, what if there had been a car in your blind spot, or a pedestrian? It's better to accept it than to fight it.

Just pay up, quit whining and take responsibility for your errors. You knew you were breaking the law and you proceeded and you ****ed up. Enjoy bankruptcy.

Your best bet is to just pay it and forget.
Don't push your luck even further by fighting it.
Just pay it, and forget it happened. Well don't completely forget, learn from your mistakes, ya know?

If anyone goes bankrupt for paying a >$400 ticket, there's something wrong.
****ing ridiculous.

It's a figurative reference. $400 is not the kind of money most 17 year olds would happily let go of, and most 17 year olds would probably $359 in debt from paying that fine.

*shrug*
I figure most 17 year olds would have a job
I could have afforded the $400 at 17, and I was way underpaid in my opinion.
I half agree, I admit. sorta
Or something.

Dude, you said yourself that you got distracted talking to your friend and then you subsequently caused a potentially dangerous situation by not being observant enough and paying attention, hence you got a ticket because in cauing that situation, you were breaking the law, so you have absolutely no grounds to dispute the ticket. Pay the fine, your question is answered. I suggest you don't wait around, becaue the answer you want to hear won't be said, your fault, take responsibility.

It's your own fault, you weren't paying attention. And the officer let you get away with having your friend. Pay the ticket, even though I voted for the wrong one.
