Does C7 and C delta (triangle symbol mean the same thing? ) because i have this book that says C delta consists of 1 , 3 , 5 , 7 and C7 in which they refer to C7 as a C dominant 7th consists of 1 , 3, 5, b7. So basically this book is referring to C delta as a major 7th and then referring to a C7 as a C dominant 7th.

I thought when you see C7 it means C major 7th!?!?!?!

A _7 chord is a dominant seventh, and is comprised of the 1 3 5 and b7.

A _(triangle symbol) is a major seventh chord, and is comprised of the 1 3 5 and 7. The major seventh chord can also be written as _maj7 or _M7.

A _min7 is a minor seventh chord, and is comprised of the 1 b3 5 and b7. The minor seventh chord can also be written as _m7 or _-7.

In short, you thought wrong. That's okay though because I remember this confused me at one point as well . Hopefully this answers your question without getting in too deep (if you want a deeper or more thorough answer you will get one from someone else).

I am happy to know that someone else has confidence in my theoretical knowledge. I was suggesting that others would be able to type up detailed explanations of how the function of each of these chords is different.

If I were to explain their functions I would likely only cover the basics.
