Here's a Blind Test interview a French magazine did with Yngwie.

http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/6766/blindtesthrmalmsteen2002page43.jpg

Things he says:

- Joe Satriani is unoriginal
- Steve Vai is a poor technician
- Dream Theater is unimpressive
- Tom Morello's solo in Killing In The Name is not a "true" sound
- Slayer is horrible
- Michael Romeo (Symphony X) sounds just like himself
- Zakk Wylde's music is easy to play
- Goes on about bending technique after listening to Guns N' Roses

I might have missed some stuff, but that's pretty much what the interview is in summary.

To be fair, the solo in Killing in the Name isn't "true" because he uses crazy effects all the time.

This is ridiculously old.

But yeah, its yngwie. What do you expect? Hes the one who rarely leaves harmonic minor...

Well the fact that Mr. Malmsteen forced that adam02 guy on youtube to remove all the videos that mocked him, while John Petrucci even made a post on the message board of his website telling everyone how much he enjoyed his, basically taught me everything I need to know about Yngwie.

Great, thanks for posting an interview that virtually no-one on here will be able to understand...

I'd like to see a guitar duel between Malmsteen and Steve Vai / John Petrucci.

I'd like you to find me someone who can play brilliant melodic legato lines like him. Go listen to Is There Love In Space?

Not to start a flame war, anyone who gets blind tested has hypocritical views. Get someone to do it to you.

It's not like he's saying stuff that are TOTALLY untrue. Some stuff he says are reasonable to a lesser or greater degree.

Its kinda funny that he has the guts to say all these things though.

EDIT: I'm not very good at French but did he say Petrucci abused the Floyd Rose on Images and Words?! And how the hell did he not like the album?!

lol at the steve vai comment, the irony is that steve vai is a better player in just about every aspect of guitar.

oh and he writes songs that are actually good.

meh, I never meant it like that but I get what you mean.

anyway, I've just read the Tom Morello comment and, granted my french isn't fantastic, but doesn't he say he prefers a truer sound. see to me, that just means he likes a more natural tone (I think the exact translation is "I prefer to have a 'true' sound"). The way the TS presented it made it look more arrogant than it actually is. And I suspect that's true for the rest of his comments.

the dream theater comment was 'they don't impress me' rather than 'they are unimpressive', 'very technical' not 'too technical' and that he thought that the floyd rose use was abusive but then he goes on to say that "I'm not saying it's bad, I'm saying it doesn't conform with my tastes".

I'm going to say that people will interpret whatever malmsteen says as arrogant because that's what they expect of him whereas I've seen people make far worse comments on this site and none of them get labelled arrogant.

EDIT: I've just looked at the Vai part and I get the impression that he was saying the bends in For the Love of god sound wrong and he doesn't like them. he doesn't say he's a poor technician or whatever the TS says

EDIT2: and he goes on about bending because slash underbends and yngwie is saying that it's wrong that a professional guitarist doesn't have on of the basics of the instrument down.

I'm my opinion, Yngwie's only true life achievement is eating 2 dozen donuts in under seven seconds.

As you can see, his training shows.
