Hey all,

I was told that I should practice playing scales up and down the fretboard. Now I get the basic composition of a scale, like you start with a note and then go whole step, whole step, half step whole, whole, whole, half. And use the notes to form the scale.

My problem is how do I decide where to play it on the fretboard? Isn't there a near infinite number of ways to play a scale on a fretboard?

YEs, infinite, as in tempo, pitch, duration...

Just start messing around and you'll see what fits / not.

Also, I'd sat you should learn the pentatonic minor scale, the major and the minor scale.

i would suggest learning the 5 forms of the major scale. once you have that down, all you have to do is know what key your in and you can play in tune up and down the neck
