Yeahh, we gotta jam type thing going on since yesterday when I decided to have fun (EPIC jam today, went on for 5 hours)
And I thought that maybe I could have my girl play bass for us, when shes at our practice area. Shes been to my bands practices, and Ive been very undistracted, besides the whole Master of Puppets thing...
Anywho, White Zombie did it, and thats whats spurring this idea...

Provided you and her have half a fucking ounce of maturity, no. Should be fine.

EDIT FOR GREAT JUSTICE:

Wait, your girl? Your girlfriend? If so, then it's just a matter of if you can keep your hands to yourself for a while. May lead to conflict if she actually joins the band, though.

no. what happens if you break up? and when you tell her that she is doing something wrong and start a discussion, dude it's a rule, NEVER EVER INCLUDE YOUR GF IN YOUR BAND.

Really depends on how mature you guys are gonna be. Is there no one else you could get? If she's really into being in the band and has a genuine motive for playing in the band (i.e. she just loves playing bass) not because she's doing it to help you out cuz your her boyfriend, then it should be alright.
#12
it all depends on how u feel about the relationship. if u feel as if u can handle being around each other and at least stay friends even if u break up then u should be fine. but if u 2 dont break up and u guys all get serious about it then good luck to ya
#14
Well, the breakup aspect is rather daunting....
But for now, just in a lil jam thing it should work?...
I just like the idea of hot chicks as bassists. Idk why.

EDIT: However, the love of music things there, definately, Ive taught her a lil bit of guitar, and shes WAY into that, prior to dating, shes cited using me to learn it....
I just would rather her play bass now, its easier to teach, and I dont really want another guitarist.

I'd imagine you'd get distracted, and one of you would get the boot, causing relationship torubles. Now you'd lose a band and a girl.
#17
well lets see,if shes good sure but what if you to decide to break up,then whats gonna happen, trust me if taken classes in school because my girl took em and when we split it was really akward

Don't mean to be a bother but who else or what else would he mean? He's just asking if it would be a bad idea for her to join in during a jam right?

TS, as long as you don't make her a permanent member things should be fine. No credit to argue over.
#19
As has been said, depends on your maturity. Can your friendship, and likewise the band, handle a breakup? There's your answer.
#20
it should be fine, unless you start doing it in the middle of the show... Know what, forget I said that and go do a show man!!

I'm lead and the singer/rhythm is my ex. We started dating and, in turn, started a band. When we broke up, it made the band EXTREMELY difficult and slowed things down hardcore... *however*, if the music is good and worth sticking around for, then it will be dysfunctional as **** but you can still get **** done.

We're releasing our first professional EP this fall. It's been hell getting here but imo, it's worth it.
Away Message: I fell out of my chair, this may take awhile.

my ex girlfriend is a bassist. I'd like to do a future collaboration with her and it wouldn't be awkward because we both moved on. So just be mature ts and if you guys break up don't argue and that would cause band drama.

Yup!!
Chicks in bands is always cool...
Unless the band is full of immature kids who're constantly looking to score the chick.

But if the band is mature, then thats cool.
And so my next band is gonna have a female vocalist.

Just gotta make sure there are no internal relationships in the band n no conflicts cuz of the girl.

I think it's a terrible idea. If you break up with the chick, it ****s up the band. If something bad happens with the band, it could seriously **** up the relationship. You've recklessly tied the two things together. If one ends, it could destroy the other with it and neither of them stand an excellent chance at lasting in the first place.

Bad, bad idea.

It's not because she's a female, it's because he is romantically linked.

Agreed. Well no youcan'tsay NO INTEREST IN THE GIRL WHATSOEVER because that's unfair rly.
As long as it stays reasonably professional and that....

Chick bassists are cool, Jeff Beck got a real good bass player, and she is like only 23 I think, she might younger. Her name is Tal Wilkenfiled I think. She plays a mean solo on "Cause We Ended As Lovers." If your going to get a chick singer, whole other issue.

write a song about your dilemma! what does this band mean to you and what COULD happen if she is your bassist and things go wrong? Whos to say that it wont be a bad idea?
honestly if you two are comfortable with it, then shoot for it! its really no different then getting an apartment with year lease with a girlfriend. you never know what could happen but like anything in the relationship if you two feel strongly about something go for it. if anything look at it as a learning experience either way. thats just me.

I saw my ex's band wither (i've developed a certain liking for this word lately!) in all sorts of **** cuz of her.
All of her band mates had a thing for her and were trying to get off with her (even when she was my gf).
Then we broke up n she started going out with the drummer so the vocalist got jealous. They both started fighting n stuff. The band went nowhere (even though it quite had the potential to) and it just broke up.
Was the most immature band i had ever seen!

So after that i like to keep strict policies of no internal relationships. If the band members wanna screw chicks, they can look outside the band but no one's touching the vocalist!!!

Well, it gave No Doubt a few of their hits. That said, as long as you're mature and have a hammered-out agreement on groupies, you should be fine.
