take the plastic knob off, reveal the post and nut under it. tighten the nut without moving the whole pot. return the knob to the stem.

a way to tighten without spinning the whole pot is to hold it from inside the guitar cavity.
and some knobs are locked on, so you would need to take off the locking screw located on side of knob first.

if you meant that the plastic knob was the loose part then repost.

^ What she said. I had that problem a year ago on my Strat copy, and that's how I fixed it.

even if it's titanium, it comes off. some have screw locks some dont.

as for your johnson, usually that's not detatchable.

The knobs on the ESP are knurled chrome, and are held to the pot shaft with a set screw, like these:

http://www.guitarpartsdepot.com/ESP-Knobs.html

Loosen the set screw with a flat screwdriver and pull off the knob. Check the pot to see if the nut is loose. If so, you'll need to remove the cover plate from the back of the guitar and hold the pot to keep it from turning while you tighten the nut.

If the set screw in the knob is stripped out then the replacement knobs from Guitar Parts Depot (linked above) are an exact match.
