which one is better for darker metal tones (think Zyklon, Emperor, Gojira). smooth highs, no shrilly/harsh/bright crap...warm mids...but most importantly ball busting thumpy lows? help is appreciated.
early breakup is a plus.

JJ tubes are usually known to be dark-voiced

Most 6l6's break up late. If you want a "similar" tube with earlier breakup, see if your amp can run KT66s.

TAD tubes are meant to be OK, but my ones were complete sh!t.
The pre-amp tubes were horrible (replaced them with electro-harmonix - the sound improved a lot), and my current power amp TADs aren't too good either (hopefully, when replaced, my amp will be much more heavenly).

So I'm guessing the TAD 6l6GC will not be as good as the JJ.
