Hey guys,

I had my friend's bass guitar and the volume pot on it is broken
He has

http://kitchener.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-musical-instruments-Ibanez-SDGR-SR-500-Bass-W0QQAdIdZ59412342
^ that bass

I don't know much about the whole physics behind it
So i need help getting the right volume pot to change it for him

I might be crazy for doing this but most of the local guitarshops are making me wait 3 weeks for them to replace it and we need to play a show soon

Thanks for everyone's help = ] !

i cant really find much electrical info on it, but i'd bet its a 500k pot.
that seems to be a fairly standard volume pot

Thanks for your comment.
It has active pickups .. and i dont' know it's not pushpull or anything.
If it's a wrong volume pot .. what would happen ?

no, the physical size of the pot just depends on how large the manufaturer wants to make it, not the value of the pot. You can find any typical guitar valued pot in several different sizes. Coincidentally, I just ordered some pots from smallbear elec, and they happen to be of the smaller variety, go order your pots from their site and you can get some that will easily fit.

Mike is correct. On the 250k vs 500k issue. Its all about "sound"

250K = warmer
500K = brighter
1 Meg = brightest

Usually, 250K pots are used with single-coil pickups and and 500Ks are used with humbuckers.

The rating should be stamped on the bottom of the pots on the ibanez. Check what those are rated at and then just get one to match it.

Size has nothing to do with the value of the pot.

Buy both pickups. Rub icyhot on both of them. Sandwich your penis between them and walk to the nearest homeless shelter with your brand new icyhot penis sandwich.

THey're Bart mk1s..... It's not my bass and i can't really tell when i look at bass pickups. THanks for all the help though = ] !

If they're active, the pots should be 25K...

Just replace it with 500K for now. I'm not sure if using a 250K will affect the tone much, as it's on the volume pot, rather than the tone.

Okay. i got a smaller pot that fits in the cavity but it won't go through the hole. But w/e

How do i connect this ? ... do i just follow how they did it with the pot that's in the bass right now ?

There's some extra thing on the side of the pot that i bought

Something like

http://www.allparts.com/store/electronics-500k-pots-ep-0886-000,Product.asp

There's some like small square thing on the side ... left side on the pot.
Do i do anything with it ?
Cause it's not on the pot thats in the bass right now

Any sites u can link me to that describes how to resolder the pot in and stuff?

If it says 500k... Then its 500k. Theres no "should" about it really. Just drop in the 500 and everything will be fine. Just pay attention that you are soldering everything in the right spot.

Thanks for all ur help guys . I dropped a 500k pot it it....
Only after making the body hole alittle bigger xD
