I stumbled across this band on youtube a while back on a tedious search for covers of songs. Obviously the guy doesn't stick to 1 scale. Some times it sounds like dorian, sometimes it goes jazzy. Any help please? I'm afriad I may just hang myself if I spend one more day failing to understand the secrets of guitar scales. oh, and they're a ****ing good band.

There's plenty more songs, but that's just the jist of it.

It looks like he's just playing the scale at different places on the neck. I mean I don't really know, but that's what it looks like to me.

I only listened to the little wing cover, but I think phrasing has a lot to do with the foreign sound. I noticed him using a 3 against 4 polyrhythm at one point which can sound kinda latin.
He also uses a technique(the name of which I can't remember) when you play a motif in key, then play the same thing out of key(for example, play the same lick down a half step), and it fits in while sounding "outside" at the same time. I'd associate this technique with Randy Rhoads, but I'm not sure if he's particularily renown for it or not.

I have a distinct feeling of deja-vu.. I think I watched those same videos about a year ago.

i would say "maybe I'm where you were a year ago then" but considering I have no clue about polyrhythm, I guess not. Thanks a lot. So no unusual scales/modes sound familiar? Especially in the soloing?

Sounds quite Dorian esque. But I may be wrong and I haven't actually tried to figure it out, so I'd take someone else advice over mine

This just reminded me of the time that my brother in law texted his mom on the night after his wedding. All it said was "Consummated."
