I'm looking into getting my second guitar, but I'm not too sure. If not, any alternatives?

Budget: less than $400.
Amp: Spider III 15 w
Current Guitar: Laguna LE 122
What I'm looking at: Epiphone Les Paul Studio
What I play: Ozzy, GNR, Black Sabbath, RATM

I really want a guitar with no whammy (since I already have one with a whammy) that plays well and sounds decent. Also I want to actually hear a difference between the pickups.

A new amp is your best options. With $400 you can get a really nice amp that will make your current guitar sound great.

Look at vox's, crates, peaveys, ect.

Just stay away from marshall MGs and line 6 spiders.

A new amp would do wonders for you at this point imo.

Well I already have a spider. It's a 15w practice amp.

I don't play in a band, and I'm not allowed to have it to loud, so there's really not much of a point in upgrading my amp. I've read even around here that they're a decent practice amp.

Seriously, I've used my guitar on other amps, I can't hear a difference, but even on a 15w spider III, I can hear a difference when trying out the epiphone.

Also, I'd like to keep as far away from 400 bucks as possible, since I still need to have money left over.

Ya, I'm 14. Too young to get a job. But do me a favor, don't ignore me because I'm younger, I just am on a tight budget since I'm relying on saved allowance money.

Well I still say new amp.Your ears will thank you in the time to come but if your dead set on a new guitar I suggest a used PRS SE Custom. I'm not really an Epi fan personally so i can't back your choice of the Epi LP Studio. Different strokes.

I REALLY don't wanna do that. I'm not into modification, especially since I know nothing about it. I really don't wanna screw it up.

Besides, the Laguna can't keep the tuning, and the intonation is poor, so I'm really looking for something that's better than my current piece of crap.

For anyone who hasn't already figured this out, I'm into this for the long run. Please don't suggest me something that I should replace soon or requires modification/high maintenance. I can replace my amp later tho.

EDIT: I was refering to the guy one post above the above poster.

EDIT2: The PRS SE Custom is $600. I don't wanna pay that much for a guitar at this point.

I'm not trying to discount what all of you are saying, I'm just rather restricted on what's available and my budget is VERY strict. Seriously, 400 bucks is the max.

EDIT: I've played SGs before, they really aren't all that comfortable.

Hmm, well gimme a second to think a bit.

Well do you have any other preferences on wood, pickups, necks, shape, finnish, etc?
#13
Lol I'm so freaking picky

As long as it sounds good.

I really just want to know if I should get the Epi LP Studio or if there's a better alternative in that price range.

I kinda have a preference for a Les Paul shape too.

Thanks for being so patient with me.

Well, here are a couple options i have for you.

There is the LP Studio you were looking at.

There is a Fender Strat Stand

Great guitar

Ibanez RG350MDX

For its price it is amazing. Has a heavy sound and even a single coil in the middle position, the neck and bridge have humbuckers.

Ibanez RG7321

I have this one and it is AMAZING. Its a 7string guitar and gives you a stronger heavier soung.

Ibanez Artcore

Another guitar i own and it sounds great for cleans and classic rock.

B.C. Rich Celtic Virgo

Epi EM-2 Prophecy FX

Schecter Damien 6

Those are some pretty good guitars for 400 or less.
I suggest you write them all down, go to guitar center and try out each and every guitar until you decide on one of these you like.

Alright man, thanks a ton! I'll take a look at these next time I'm over there (Probably to get new strings or something) and get back to ya.

That Ibanez RG is beautiful BTW.

I bought a my Stellar Mecury 001 (really nice LP copy) for $200. I haven't played a Epi LP but from all the reviews on Harmony Central they say they're better than them for half the price.
