Father was in the Navy, Uncle was in the Navy Construction Battalion, I'm in the Coast Guard Auxillary, my cousin was just shipped off to Navy bootcamp, mother was in the Navy stationed in Wales, and grandfather served in the Navy at Vietnam. From what I've seen it's probably one of the best things you can do with your life.

I was in the Navy...biggest mistake of my life. It wasn't right at all for me. People seem to succeed if they come from a military background, which I didn't. I got an early release...I just couldn't stand being on a boat in the middle of the ocean for 6 months outa the year lol....plus I worked on the flight deck >.<

My Dad was in the Navy for 20ish years, my brother is trying to join, my mom is in the air force and so is my step dad, so to spite them all i'm going to join the army.

Well that and you'll be more then likely to be shifted to combat duty if the war in Iraq or the South Ossetia war gets out of hand.

Meh I'de be a helicopter pilot, and all they do is search for submarines, which the middle east dont have, so I wouldnt be worried The war would be over by the time training ends any way.

In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on now, people, make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can't you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the mother land
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on people, and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)

Do it.

Any military career is very good for you, personally and mentally, no matter what your political stance is (inb4 anti-war hippies: DONT JOIN UP YOU WILL DIE).
It all depends if you can see yourself doing it as a career for a large part of your adult life and the good and bad things it brings, as well as the stress, bootcamp and being stuck in a claustrophobic metal tub in the middle of the sea for months on end.

Think about it and research your role(s), but if your heart and soul is into it, then do it and make yourself proud.

My sisters boyfriend joined the Navy last year and loves it.

He was already physically fit as he's a long distance runner and now he's on great money, has a job for life and a great career ahead of him.

It's not for me, personally, but if you enjoy that sort of thing it's a good move.

Just been accepted as an Engineer Officer in the Royal Navy, the Officer benefits are definitely worth it if you meet the requirements.
