that doesnt sound right. does it not start on g?!

If your "starting note" is g then it sounds like you are using one of the C chords inversions, the second inversion I believe. Using inversions of chords will give a different sound to the chord. Maybe you could try playing the C chord with the root note being C(i.e. leave the g note on the 3rd fret, low E string out). Hope that helps

It didn't sound right to me either. I thought maybe my ears were broken. So I had to do some work on this myself.

Here's my version,

Use Am7 voicing (x02010) and Am7(sus4) voicing (x02030)

G Am Am7 C G
Happy birthday to you

G Am Am7 Am7(sus4) C
Happy birthday to you

G C/G C/E C C/B Am
Happy birthday dear Sunburst

F C G7 C
Happy Birthday to you

I know you wanted just the Major minor and 7 chords where I have a few sus2 and inversions but it's not that hard. If you have any issues playing it just ask.

EDIT: Few minor adjustments made. Changed a B to a G in the first line and took out an Em in the last line.
