my yamaha pacifica (fat strat, $200) does both well, the humbucker doesn't distort as well as some for metal, but it works fine with dist/EQ, and the pickups sound very good for blues

Umm... It's going to be hard to get any good guitar for 250$... But maybe a used Epi Les Paul?

Dude...get a schecter. I have a C1 Hellraiser FR and its amazing. Flip to the bridge EMG and get my metal tones but pull the knobs and blend the pickups and get a nice airy blues tone. It's just an amazingly varioutous guitar. It looks metal but that's not all it can do.

Ibanez EW30ASERLG

Schecter C-1 Hellraiser FR
