Hey guys right now im looking at going all out and getting an expensive combo amp i have up to $2000, the amps im looking at are:

Marshall Vintage Modern
Mesa Stiletto Ace combo
Mesa Lone Star Combo
Mesa Lone Star Special Combo

Points : i prefer british voicing so the lone star loses points there

I play: Everything
Crisp Cleans, RHCP, hard rock, 80's rock like GnR, Rhodes, Yngwie

I look for something with enough versitily for cleans/crunch/cleans

One question about the mesas:
the lone star special says that when switched to 30 watts it uses diodes, so does it stop using its tubes at 30? (the guy at the store said it still uses tubes, but i was weiry) any help? do any of the mesa's switch to all diodes over tubes at certain wattages? (note i know some have a diode switch)...umm please help? advice?

and yes i will go try em all out

for $2000 and under, the Mesa Roadster combo is your best bet. It's extremely versatile.

hey, i love my stiletto

its a different take on brit tone, and it took a bit tweaking (like any mesa does) to get it to sound good but im totally happy with its tone now

its fairly close to a coheed and cambria tone, with a bit different (more british) gain voicing

i beleive the lonestar special, unlike the lonestar classic, is british voiced.
however i really love the sound of a mesa stilleto for british style sounds. The lonestar classic is extremely versatile though. try them out and youll likely fall in love with something.

and YAY im unbanned!!!!!!!!!!!!

well if im throwing 2000 at it, might as well be original ment to last, i thought about ceriatones, but the only model they might have is the jcm 800 in 50, cuz i dont want anything more than 50, thats why the lonestar special is appealing to me right now, though i will have time tomorrow before work to go test em out

It has EL84's. Although it sounds like a Rectifer mixed with a JCM800. Thats how I can describe it

I've played one, it just seemed a bit more modern. At least, as imgooley said, American.

Don't JCM800's have EL34's?

Also, the Blues Junior uses EL84's, and it's distinctly American voiced.

Ok so i went to the store today and tried out the 4 amps. sorry guys but splawns not on the list, and i dont even know where to find em in canada.

verdict:

the list is narrowed down to the stilleto, and marshall

now i didnt check but do u guys know if the marshalls reverb is digital, or spring?
other then that, both amps sound fine, but i think the kt's in the marshall give it more of the tonal edge over the stiletto, while the other definatly has more features.

you should go back to the store and spend lots of times with those two amps. i could tell you which one i like better, but you need to decide yourself so you dont make a decision you later regret.

Splawns are custom made... so most of the time you directly order... like carvin!

Listen to some clips man... go on the splawn fan forums and ask around

I was Wrong, the Stiletto has EL34s. I always get those confused.
