im working on this layered cover of Calabria and im wondering if theres a way to get a better tone for the sax part. thanks

erm... this probably won't work, but here's a suggestion:

Roll off the tone on your bass, so there's virtually no "attack" to your sound and use your fingers if you're not already. then on the amp, boost treble and middle a bit.

it probably won't sound like a sax, but it will have a nice smooth, bright tone, which could immitate it to some extent.

try this- sound completely different.

it worked for me when I tried to get Freebird guitar tone out of my not so Freebirdy bass.

I just said eh, played the guitar solo (really slowly, I never got the parts down fast enough) and sounded wicked using a more punchy tone.
