I've been playing my electric for around 3-4 months (semi-seriously). I mostly play punk (Offspring, Rise Against, etc) and I think I'm getting a good hang of jumping between power chords smoothly.

I'm just having a really hard time figuring out the rhythm patterns for any songs.

What do you guys suggest I try?

just focus on the rhythm first just using any random chord and once its down then add the regular chords in
unplugged ftw

Listen, and if you really can't figure them out then learn easier songs.

If it's hearing and understanding the rhythm, try use a Guitarpro/Powertab guitar tab. If it's playing the rhythms then sdon't play at full speed. Try half speed and build up once you can play flawlessly at one speed.
