I'm looking at two different guitars:

The Gibson Explorer 76' Reissue

and

The LTD FX-400SM

I like the Gibson because it is the Classic of the two, and well, it's a Gibson

I like the LTD because it has the Active EMG's which the Gibson doesn't, it looks awesome and I personally think it plays a bit better than the Gibson.

So my question for you is; as a metal player which would be better? Both guitars come to around the same price. The Gibson is £680 inc. Hard Case while the LTD is £670 (£580 for the guitar + around £90 for the hard case).

At the moment I'm leaning towards the LTD. What do you think I should go for?

I'd mostly be playing Hard Rock or Metal with it, probably with a Metal Muff (Amp not yet decided upon, so any good mid powered practise amp for around £200-£250 recommendations would be cool)

Neither, both are overpriced IMHO. Jackson Kelly perhaps?

Out of those those, the LTD because it sounds like that was your favourite

If you're ever gonna sell the guitar you should go with the Gibson as it doesn't go down in value that much... but from a heavy metal perspective i'd go with the ltd... well actually... what I did was that i changed the gibson pickups to Emgs and spared the originals.. but that became a bit expensive

There's not point getting a Gibson because it's a Gibson, it's not designed for metal, and you don't like the feel for it.

So the LTD would be the best for you out of both of those guitars.

It's not what we think, it's what feels and sounds better to you. Quality wise the Gibson is better and will last longer/higher resale value in the future if you ever want to sell it.

You should spend more money on an amp rather than a guitar.

emgs are disgusting
and the gibson is an investment, as it willl hold value, unless you mod it

Thats only true if you get a rare or old gibson. The current models loose their value too. Not much, but they absolutely dont 'keep their value'. For example. A LP std gets sold for 1400$ these days. New they cost about 1900$

And that is an opinion.

It seems like you the LTD has more perks for you, hence that is the way I would go.

Wait, do you mean the Epiphone '58? Since I don't think Gibson makes the '58 reissue, only Epiphone. If so, then definitely the LTD.
Guitars
Agile 3100 CSB
ESP MH400 w/ Trem-Setter
Epi G-310
Applause Acoustic

Amps
1968 Fender Vibrochamp - Great amp, only $100 fixxer-upper
Line 6 Spider II

REMEMBER, ALL TONE IS SUBJECTIVE!
