Slayer released Reign In Blood
Metallica released Master Of Puppets
Dark Angel released Darkness Decends

And other things I can't remember.

What is your favorite year in metal?

I am seriously bored so I will give this thread a lash.

I would have to say 1989 (despite me being 1 year old!) because of:

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Autopsy - Severed Survival
Pestilence - Consuming Impulse
Terrorizer - World Downfall

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

I don't think you can contain all the greatest metal in 1 year, I'd just say the 80s.
#7

Death-Leprosy
King Diamond-''Them''
Slayer-South Of Heaven

Blind Guardian's Imaginations From The Other Side was released in 1995 too, the ultimate metal album

but the best year for metal would probably be somewhere in the 80's

You've got a long list but the only ones that are really worthy of being mentioned are noted above.

I think 1991 still wins. All of the greatest death metal albums are from there as well as some great technical and prog thrash, some black metal, and some prog death metal too.

EDIT: Btw forgot that fates warning-parallels came out in '91... another good one for a good year.

Also add to 1995 Suffocation's Pierced From Within, Cathedral's Carnival Bizzare, Dark Tranquillity's the Gallery, Morbid Angel's Domination, Iced Earth's Burnt Offerings, Vader's De Profundis, Savatage's Dead Winter Dead, Darkthrone's Panzerfaust, St. Vitus' Die Healing, Immortal's Battles in the North, and Sinister's Hate.

1995 is probably the best year then following 1991.

EDIT: actually cryptopsy didn't release anything in '95, so thats wrong,

I agree with poopsmith's 1999 list and I'm sure there are plenty more to add to that.

However, as retarded as it sounds, I think the best year in metal has been sometime in the last 5 years. I've heard some great stuff. However, I won't be surprised if it doesn't sum up to one year and more likely it's scattered releases. Thus, due to the fact that more great stuff came out around 1998-2000, I'm more inclined to say one of those years.

Well....I'll see what happened in 2000:

Immolation - Close to a World Below
Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element, Part I
Immortal - Damned in Black (while not as good, still decent)
Behemoth - Thelema.6
Nevermore - Dead Heart in a Dead World
Borknagar - Quintessence
Cryptopsy - ...And Then You'll Beg (very meh, but I still felt inclined to include it)
Iron Maiden - Brave New World
Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris
Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation
Nile - Black Seeds of Vengeance
Symphony X - V: The New Mythology Suite
Vintersorg - Cosmic Genesis

Meh....I think I saw much more quality stuff in 1999/2001. Still, some gems in 2000.
I've found Jesus
