So I just started stand up bass lessons today and will be playing in my schools jazz band in about 2-3 weeks. There isn't much of a challenge as far as most of the parts go we mostly play Ellington charts and the occasional Mingus chart. I am going to cash in a savings bond to buy a stand up for myself. My question is what type of strings should I buy for a rich and full jazz sound?

Do they teach you to call it a double bass in the second lesson?

I probably should get into the habit of calling it a 3/4 Double bass.6

Anyhoo ill give those DR Flatwounds a try once my bass comes in cause lord knows stock strings wont cut it
