i was just watching this (i have no idea why) and noticed that MAB has what looks like a 28 fret guitar

someone explain?

thanks
#2
There are guitars with 36 frets, but the top ones are really too close together to use easily.
#4
Holy ish thats too many frets.

28 frets? What could you possibly do with a 28 fret guitar? Bass I can understand, it would bring you more notes that people care about, but once you get past the 24th fret on a guitar is enters a "high notes for the sake of high notes" range.

yeah i know. havent you guys seen that educational video on how to do it with one

If you built a guitar I'm sure you could make the neck as long as you wanted. (it would just sound like sh*t)

I used to think they were awesome, thats before i got one.......

I thought they were awesome until I got one. I thought they were lame.

Then I got a triple locking tuning system and I realized how awesome they are when they don't **** your tuning while you play. Then, whammy bars become godlike.

KK Downing from Judas Priest uses a guitar with a triple octave neck (36) that's the most I've ever seen though.

Wait, I just thought of something. ITs sorta stupid and pointless but if you have a TriOct guitar and since the making of these guitars is very rare, wouldn't strings cost a lot?

do you really use more than 22? maybe 24 but probably not

its just excessive IMO and pitches that high arent often useful musically

You would use the same strings, why would they have to be different?

I only have 21 frets, but I don't like going up high. On my guitar is sounds like ****... squire strat

Is there a very big differenc between one of these and the American made ones? I know there will be some but how different are they?

Oh and why the hate for the whammy bar, they have their uses.

I don't know how it'd be to play, I would think your frets would end up so close together that they'd just annoy you, but I've never played a 36 fret neck. The biggest compromise is that for anything more than a 24 fret neck, you don't get a neck pup any more, which seems a pretty crap deal to me. The neck pup on my tele is pretty much where my 24th fret would be, if I had one.

paul gilbert has 24 frets and he rarely uses them all

david gilmour has 21 and he uses them alot

hendrix never really went past fret 17

so i think its total overkill for any more than 24

yeah and Jimis upper fret access can't have been great with a back to front stratocaster, if he'd been into using the highest frets, he probably wouldn't have gone with the strat.
