You always hear talk of "transparency" in pedals, but can a high-gain dist. pedal be transparent? I'm looking into getting a distortion pedal for heavier stuff. It needs to have LOTS of available gain, but it needs to preserve my original clean/slightly overdriven tone, without being clean of course

Does something like this exist?

playing by yourself is like masturbating, sure it feels great, but it's nothing compared to the real deal.

OD pedal?, whats ur gear? amp etc

MIM Tele --> MXR dynacomp --> DOD 250 overdrive --> Traynor YCV-20WR

I get an AMAZING clean tone, and the DOD is pretty much a lead/clean boost, since it adds a lot of bass and midrange, with just a touch of gain.

When you hear talk of transparency and other nonsense like organic and 3-D - it's really a matter of opinion. Do you mean you want the character of your current amp (which is?) with lots of distortion, or could you better define transparency?

edit:
What sort of tone are you going for?

When I think of transparency the first thing that comes to mind is EQ.

I want a straight up gain pedal with a 100% flat EQ.

Oh... Traynor YCV... Well, I do understand what you mean.
I use a Blackstar HT-Drive together with a DS-1 on my YCV-40 to get the tone i want, but i'm not sure it'd fit for you.
Check out blackstar pedals, they're amazing.

Yeah I love my YCV. The cleans and reverb are quite amazing, but the gain on it is...how should I say this...****?

MXR Micro Amp is very transparent, but its a boost for your amps overdrive, not an overdrive in itself. However, you may not like your traynor cuz theres not enough gain to push it properly, so this may work
