add a delay to your playing
kind of like an echo
Scar tissue that I wish you saw
Sarcastic mister know it all
Close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause
With the birds I'll share
This lonely view

It pretty much repeats your notes. If you have a delay pedal set at 50ms (miliseconds) and you hit an E. It'll repeat that note every 50 ms.

almost. It creates an echo like effect. If you set it at 50ms, with one feedback, then it will only play once, if you set it to two it'll play twice and so on. If you set it to maximum, then it'll keep repeating. It doesn't really repeat just your notes, but everything you play.

Let say you play a chord or a note on an electric guitar.

WITHOUT DELAY: JREEEENNNGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!

WITH DELAY:JREEEEEENNNGGGGGG!!!!!...............JREEEENNNGGG!!!.........JREEENGGGG!!.....JRENG!.....

Basically a delay pedal repeats what you played for a certain interval of time depending on how long you set the delay. When you use the pedal itself, even if you don't know how to use it, a little bit of quality time with the pedal will make you understand FULLY about delay pedal

delay isnt exactly an echo, watch this video at about 2:00 in :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUX_y80hGmc&fmt=18

he plays the normal bulls on parade solo, but after the scratching part he goes into a bunch of hammerons,
hes not even playing that fast, thats what the delay effect does.
