basically i have a laptop on vista and a pc on xp,

the pc is connected to the wireless router via an ethernet cable

and the laptop is connected wirelessly to the router

so how can i transfer files, i have an ethernet cable and have plugged the laptop in the router but i need like a step by step on what to do next

Go to My Network Places, and click "set up a home or small office network" and it's a step by step guide I think.

it says that the other computer hasn't got any removable storage

So I'm assuming that if you don't have a router, you need a crossover cable, but if you do, setup a sharing folder or drive under the same workgroup.

Are both computers under the same workgroup?

^ this guy had a problem with his firewall - make sure you disable that before you start messing around.
