i originally wanted to get a splawn super stock because they have a really vintage classic rock sound that i want to have (think hendrix up to van halen) and also have a pretty decent clean channel

but then i considered getting the splawn competition. i was gonna use it for dirty gainy sounds and use an mxr micro amp to clean it up. i also want it because its 25/50 watts and its 300$ cheaper

my question is how does gear one on the competition compare to the splawn superstock?

i saw on a demo you can use it to lower the preamp distortion on the amp (im gonna double check now). i use my volume knob but i always drift in and out of the mix

edit: i think if i use my volume knob and micro amp in unison i can be clean and stay in the mix. i just watched a video on it, its a nasty lil pedal

You can turn down the gain on the microamp, but that seems dumb. It's intended as a boost.

Install a treble bleed mod on your volume control, so your tone cleans up better. You don't send as much treble to ground, so your signal should stay in the mix better. This'll cost less than 2 bucks for a .001uF capacitor.

if you want better cleans, just spend the extra 300 and get the superstock

The treble bleed mod is a quick 5min mod that anyone can do easily.

Paying Guitar Center to wire anything for you is a waste of your money and time. Someone the other day said a shop charged him $40 to install a new pot on his guitar and took a few days to get it back... That's ridiculous.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Well, I would've thought that Project Guitar thing demonstrated it well enough...Since pretty much every guitar pot is wired the same.

You'll notice a .001 microfarad capacitor across the volume pot for one of the variants. That's the treble bleed mod, and it's labeled as a Treble Bypass in the diagram.
