i chose off mainly due tothe fact that mine doesnt cus mines an epi les paul classic which supposedly are slightly rare, says the interwebz. Don't the covers affect the tone??

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

On. Looks neater personally. And EMG's in a Les Paul Custom in Ebony =

+1 to the EMG's/Blackouts in a Les Paul Custom Ebony.

I think covers on looks cleaner.

By the way, anyone happen to know if Gibson pickup covers will fit on a PRS SE Custom?

I'm not diggin' the creme-black pickup colours.

I put off, but it depends. I'm going to get EMG covers for my 2 passive pickups (I have an EMG 81 on in bridge position) but am going to alternate between on and off every string change.

I'm also going to buy SD Pearly Gates pick up in red so it will look pretty wild.
Epiphone Les Paul (Modded with 2 passive pickups and an EMG81)
Yamaha RG guitar w/ Floyd Rose

I prefer on, only because off would make my Gibson look more like an Epiphone. The only exception is those pickups where one is black and one is white. They're awesome.
