I'm sorry if this isn't in the right fourm, I'm still a bit of a newb

Well, for the past month, I've done tons of practice on Lay Down by Preistess, but now I'm putting words to it and having trouble finding how to sing the part well. For the first 8-10 years of my life, most of what I listened to was my moms music (James Taylor, Eagles, Peter Cetera) and now when I go to sing with my guitar, I sound like a soft rock singer, and I need help breaking away from it. I don't want to sound like the singer from Preistess (because I don't like how he sings), but I don't want to sound like Peter Cetera! Please help!

Well how old are you? This may seem obvious but unless you've reached a certain age you're certainly not going to have some kind of pleasing baritone quality to your voice are you?
