Picked this up very cheap, big enough for a couple of bodys. Not got a clue what it is.

Anyone got any ideas?

Wtf? GB&C usually doesn't troll this much.

Anyway... If you got it for cheap, you could always build at least one body out of there and assemble a guitar just to check out how it sounds. Who knows, maybe it's worth it.

how thick is it? it looks like it would make a sweet carved top for something... i've seen poplar that kinda looked like that once... but it had green and purple streaks in it... looked cool.

If they can make a plywood strat sound decent you can make your unknown wood sould sweet . I mean hell even basswood sounds good...

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Doesn't look all that special. Build something and see what it sounds like.

Just thought it'd be nice to do something a little different. Its got a little bit of a bow from side to side but should finish at around 48mm so I could get a decent carve out of it.

I don't know. Right now it just looks like moldy wood to me. I'm interested to see how it will look when he starts cutting into it though. It will probably look alot better.

It looks like a mineral streak to me. No idea what the wood is that the streak is in, but I think the color is just that.
All my photobucket pics are dead so no links to my guitar build threads.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist posting that pic, and it was a free bump for him. I don't have any clue as to what kind of wood it is. It's kinda cool looking, though, and might look cool as a guitar.

End grain looks awesome, loads of the mad marbling effect. I think if I place the template in the right place it's gonna look sweet.
#23
Just natural I think. Picked it up when I went to get some Flamed Ash and Brazilian Mahogany from a friend. It was just sat there and though it looked kinda cool. Cant wait to see what its like when its been ran through the thicknesser.
#24
the i believe is poplar, poplar is the only wood i know that is light brown/yellow and has purple mineral streaks through it.

the unfortunate thing about poplar is that he mineral streaks plane out after a few run-throughs.

As a matter of fact I have. But those were semi-justifiable trolling cases. This is a perfectly serious thread.

I demand a link to this austinzor build. I need lulz.

EDIT: Nevermind I found it, I remember this. I never did see the whole thread though. Is he retarded? I think he must eat paint chips or something.
