Is it just my LP or does the gold finish on the ebony model, especially the pickups seem to be tarnished and silvery at the edges? Anyone else find this?

epiphone doesn't do a very good job of plating their hardware.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

You never know, you can't guarantee they have never made a faulty paint job. Lots of guitars have them.
Edit: Sorry, thought you said Epiphone don't do bad jobs.

Epi's really differ from run to run, it's easy to hit a bad model, but it's just as easy to score a great one. So I think you've just hit a bad run. But if it plays well, who gives a damn?

You probably didn't get it straight from the box, but took the display model from the store.

People would have played it a lot, and the gold plating wears off.

Don't worry about it - I got mine straight from the box, and a huge amount of the gold plating has faded away to silver. It happens no matter what.

It also depends on the person playing it, not JUST the materials.

Some people have more corrosive sweat than others. That's going to wear down finishes on pickups, bodies, necks, and strings faster.

"Gold" hardware will wear down on any guitar after time; the only real solution to this is to make the hardware out of solid gold, and don't expect this to happen anytime soon.
