Anyways, eeerrr, post-metal, would Agalloch count? "Limbs" reminds me of 65daysofstatic a lot.

Agalloch have a pretty prominent post- influence, so yeah.

Since this is a post-metal thread, I may as well ask for some post-rock recs. What are some good bands and albums that will own my face? The only experience I have with post-rock, really, is just Agalloch, Explosions In The Sky, and Godspeed! You Black Emperor, and I'll be checking out Sigur Ros shortly. Any help is appreciated.

I listened to most Cult of Luna's "Salvation" last night.

Very, very good stuff. I wasn't in the best listening mood, but I loved what I heard.

I'll have to listen to more later, to get an even better feel for it.

I haven't heard that album, but Somewhere Along the Highway is absolutely incredible, get it now. Am currently listening to the new album, it's pretty darn good so far, not as much post rock in it though.

Mogwai!
The albums Young Team and Mr Beast are supposed to be their best, I also love Happy Songs for Happy People, as that has more electronic experimentation and the occasional doom metal-ish moment.

I always thought BTBAM had a bit more post-rock influences than hardcore ones.

Anyways, eeerrr, post-metal, would Agalloch count? "Limbs" reminds me of 65daysofstatic a lot.

Agalloch does have post-metal and post-rock influences (Our Fortress Is Burning, anyone?). I'd say the black and folk metal is more prominent though.

My thoughts exactly.

Listening to Red Sparowes' "Aphorisms" EP at the moment. It's fantastic.

I used to love this genre, but barely listen to bands anymore, usually Made Out of Babies or Isis. I sort of got over the sound I suppose

Yeah, I don't listen to it as much as I used to, but I still listen regularly, at least.

Best Cult of Luna album? I loved them a while ago, but forgot about them. I'm going to make some CD purchases soon, and would like to get one of their's.

korinaflyingv has been saying "Somewhere Along the Highway" is amazing, and I love "Salvation".

So one of those two would probably be good buys for you.

I was thinking about Salvation because the cover is prett BA.

I'll read some amazon reviews, then make my choice.

"Salvation" is one of Allmusic's Top Pick albums, and the only Cult of Luna album to have the award (if I'm not mistaken) if that helps you any.

Well after a quick look at amazon.com, Salvation costs $32.98 and Somewhere Along the Highway costs $28.99. WTF is this?

I may just get their newest album, as it's $13.99.

Why do these albums cost so much?

Maybe they're in short supply?

You could also try cduniverse, or a merch store for better prices.

Listening to "Red Ran Amber" by Pelican at the moment.

Pelican will always be one of my Top 5 bands. Always.

Everything they put out is class. I just wish I could write as well as they do. Their harmonies/dual guitar riffs are just amazing.

You just can't go wrong with the Lebec/de Brauw combo.

All I have to say is that they will no longer be instrumental, and a certain Mr McGachy will be taking vocal duties.

Well, with the current state of metal, something like this COULD happen, and at least seems halfway plausible.

But, is there really a project called The Unspoken Wildlife Specialist?

If not, I'm totally stealing that. ¬_¬

Well, actually, I kinda did. I figured he was joking, but I still checked MA to be sure.

Anywho, since experimental metal is part of the topic, I assume it would be acceptable to mention Arcturus here?
#78
Sure. Why not?

I've never actually listened to them, though. I saw part of an "instructional" video on Youtube a while back, it was more or less a "Hey, this is how we play it, and you'll never be able to" kind of thing.
