I already know of God is an Astronaut. "All is Violent, All is Bright" is breathtaking.

Will do with the others, as well.

Black Metal? No. Just no. Stop it now.

They're mostly an incredibly atmospheric post metal band. A little more industrial on the first two albums (since Broadrick was still involved with Godflesh at the time), but most everything after that has a lot of shoegaze and experimental feels.

Ah, okay. i'd never heard them, just heard them mentioned.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.

Understandable.

Especially with Broadrick in the band. You never know what he'll do.

I heard about Shoegaze by growing up in the 80's.

I can't remember where I first heard of it. I know I knew the term "shoegaze", and that it meant fuzzy walls of sound, but I had no idea what it ACTUALLY was until I heard My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless", and then after that I was better able to notice shoegaze elements in songs and whatnot.

But my base knowledge of various bands and whatnot comes form Allmusic.

i just wanted to say i ****ing love Post metal and post rock.

anyone ever heard of the band IREPRESS?

their myspace has some good tracks

EDIT: noticing the convo and remembering a recent wikipedia experience i believed "shoegaze" was named so because of the bands habit of 'staring at their shoes' during live shows
#132
^Yep. Pretty much.

It was called "shoegazing" at first, but, as human beings, we all got lazy, and took off the "-ing" and just left and "e" in its place.

Sorry to break it to you, but that track's been out since last year.

It was on the Jesu/Eluvium Split that was released last July. They re-released all of the tracks on that EP plus a few remixes/alternate versions of those tracks last month on another EP, so I can see how you thought it was new.

Listen to 'em on my 8tracks. 4th track... You might have to click that little infinity symbol if it doesn't play.

Yeah, I don't really care if anyone listens to it beforehand...

And I just realized I put the wrong Spiral Architect song on there...

I use too many ellipses...

Easily H.O.P.E. (Represent, FA ), Mortifera, and Agalloch (I guess those last two fit in?).

There's a good Post-Rock thread in Alt/Indie forum, but as a good base, this should do well, IMO.

Some of my faves:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor- "f♯a♯∞"
Mogwai- "Come On Die Young"
Explosions in the Sky- "Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place"
Red Sparowes- "At the Soundless Dawn"
Russian Circles- "Enter"
65daysofstatic- "The Fall of Math" or "One Time for All Time"
Maybeshewill (65dos clone, really, but still amazing)- "Not for Want of Trying"
The Cancer Conspiracy- "Omega" (Get this!! One of the best albums of the year)
The Six Parts Seven- "Casually Smashed to Pieces" (more experiemental/acoustic than post-rock, but meh)
The Pirate Ship Quintet- "The Pirate Ship Quintet EP" (Amazing)
Eluvium- "Copia"
Caspian- "The Four Trees"
The American Dollar- "The Technicolour Sleep"
This Will Destroy You- "Young Mountain EP"

I could go on. That's a start, though.

Cult of Luna's Salvation came in the mail last night (and Lift Your Skinny Fists today). I must say...it's fantastic.

It's rare that an album evokes not only emotion in me, but such a broad range and intensity of emotions.

I love it.

Fantastic album.

Indeed, I listened to it last night while I was sipping on some coffee. 'twas great.

Even in the instrumental portions, you can feel their desperation, their anger. I want to listen to it again today, but I don't want to over-listen it.

Hm...so I need some post metal besides the obvious Jesu and Pelican.

And, I also need some post-rock besides Mogwai, Expolisons..., God Is An Astronaut, and God Speed You! Black Emperor ( ). And, the obvious ones like 65dos as well.

Helpz?

Refer to my above list for dminishedthingy for post rock, etc.

Then, check out my TS post for some good post metal. Yes, that post is kind of small, but it's a start, at least.

I still hold strong that "Your Hand in Mine" has the single greatest moment in music ever, IMO.

4:38

Is there anything else I truly need to say? I get goosebumps every. single. time.

It never fails. I can loop it ten times, and I still get the same exact chills.

Simply......... stunning. More than stunning. It's just perfect in every way I can define it. The whole song is just one amazing moment after another, but that build up to the eventual climax is just beyond words.
