Three. Progressive rock. I've also seen them called acoustic metal, which is weird. They were on the Progressive Nation tour with Dream Theater, Opeth, and Between the Buried and Me. They totally deserved their spot.

Sadly, I didn't get to go to Progressive Nation, but I'd heard their music before.
My band, Escher
My progressive rock project, Mosaic

clearly, the goal is to convert every thread into a discussion about BTBAM

BTBAM IS ALWAYS RELEVANT

No-man; has Steven Wilson. I'm guessing lots of people know Blackfield already.

Portal, which was made up of people from Cynic and some chick singer after Cynic broke up. Paul and Sean also have a band called Aeon Spoke, which is prog rock.

Mr. Bungle, and the Cardiacs. Both freaking weird as hell, and epic.

EDIT: Yay@TS for putting Ulver. I love them. Their older stuff is more black metal, but with singing. Also, Empyrium. It doesn't seem like a lot of people know them.

I went as Darth Vadar to a school dance before.

Jer Coons - Entropy.......... Acoustic

The Parlor Mob is great I saw them at lollapalooza. They're very Led Zeppelin-esque, I'm not real sure what the genre would be.
#32
i tried to make mine organised ... but yea, ... i failed... so i apologise.

One more; I forgot Negură Bunget. They're prog black metal or something, and it has an older black metal sound to it. Aside from the xylophone. They also use some other weird instruments. They really have a unique sound, you probably would be surprised if you heard them. The only thing that sucks is that all of their lyrics are in archaic Romanian, and it's hard to find translations. I can't find any for the lyrics on their new album, but I kind of like it like that I guess. I like not knowing the lyrics to bands sometimes; like with Alcest. The vocals just add to the atmosphere of the music.

Speaking of Alcest, lol. Idk what they are exactly, but I've heard people call them shoegaze black metal? It's like slow, happy black metal with singing instead of screaming. It's French, so once again, I have no clue what he's singing, but it doesn't bother me.

Negură Bunget - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8wB7emt6ig
Alcest - http://www.myspace.com/alcestmusic

Alcest's myspace clips off the beginnings of the songs, which are mainly acoustic, so you can youtube them if you want.
