ive been working on picking after each hammer on/pull off and i tried doing it fairly fast but it sound like im just pick each note rather than pulling of, so i was wondering if anyone could suggest how i could pull off faster

Well, i'm currently struggling in a battle to adapt to alternate picking, and I understand where you're coming from. The unfortunate part is, the only advice i can give you is just concentrate on the gap between picking and hammering/pulling. I've also found that it helps if you keep your fret hand straight and make sure that your fingertips (only your fingertips) are touching the strings that you are working with, don't make a barring position.
You'd be amazed what dull repitition in practice can accomplish, but it's also just that... dull.
(Fear not, it will pay off!)
