I just got an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top yesterday and am having trouble with slides on it for some reason. It seems like my fingers don't slide easily on the strings.

Could this just be because the strings and fretboard are new and it will take some time to smooth out? After playing, my fingertips are black.

Is there something I can get to help make the strings slicker?

Thanks.

Did you string it or did it already have strings? Because old strings tend to be harder on slides. I just noticed the same problem on my new guitar and the strings on it haven't been changed it years.

It was already strung when I bought it and the strings look new, very shiny. I guess I will take it to my local shop and get it restrung and see if that helps. I may also lower the action.

What gauge strings normally come standard on those? .09? They seem a bit thicker than what is on my Ibanez and they are .09.

Thanks.
