I have been looking at some explorer shaped guitars for a while now. And I have narrowed it down to these two:

A Jackson Kelly KE3:

A ESP LTD FX-400 SM:

I am however having a bit of a problem deciding which of the two. I have played both and like them; I play mostly metal. My only worry with the KE3 is the Licensed Floyd Rose for two reasons:
1 - Is this LFR any good?
2 - Down tuning is going to be a bitch.

Which would you say is the better guitar?

Please daddy, just for one hour.

ESP because you will be down tuning and sometimes it's a pain in the ass with a LFR.

Jackson. MIJ>MIK, IMO.
EDIT: I didn't see the part about you tuning down. In which case, I change my vote to the LTD.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Thanks for all the help guys, but I still can't quite make up my mind, the Kelly is just such a great looking guitar lol.

have you played both? I'd get the Kelly, honestly. Also, when the trem wears out (which will happen eventually), The OFR, and the G(Gotoh)FR fit, but I've never found anywhere that sells the GFR.

Maybe look for a Kelly with a fixed bridge?

They are both awesome looking guitars, (and I'm not a huge fan of LTD...)

I'm with oneblackened, have you played them?

All the best,

The Kelly won't have problems with down tuning, as long as you don't switch tunings it'll be fine.
