Basically I'm looking for a guitar suited for playing metal, a little shred, and instrumentals rock/metal.

Here are the specs Im after-

Mohagony body with maple top
24 frets
passive pups
OFR or good liscence
Preferably strat shape

Two guitars come in mind, Jackson SL2H Mah and a Schecter Hellraiser Sunset FR.

My price range is around $1200 CDN but I see the Jackson going for over $2300 new, I can push my budget to $1500 if I can find a good used deal.

The Sunset FR has active pups which is probly too hot for my taste and the gothic cross inlas look pretty weird, so I'm not sure about this one.

Any others?
Sounds like a job for Ibanez. Check out there S series guitars if you want. I think theyre only 22 frets, but do u really need those two extra frets? And the trems are much better than FRs IMO. Otherwise, try out some of their RGs. Very flat necks, some say the thinnest mass-produced necks out there.
Check out the ESP LTD MH-1000. The only thing is the floyd version has active pickups(EMG)
