I want the killswitch sound... which amps/pedals or effects should I use??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello fellow guitarists,

I play an ESP LTD Viper-400 guitar and I love it, the look, the sound, everything about it makes me randy, but my amp sucks, and im not sure what to do about the sound I want to produce. I have a Marshall 30 watt amp and a Line 6 Floor Pod, which I don't mind, but it's not specifically made for the style of music I want to play, which brings me to my next point. My favourite band is Killswitch Engage and I'm really striving to produce a sound that is similar to theirs, guitar wise. If anyone has any tips for my particular amp or floor pod, please let me know, or if anyone can suggest a better amp/ pedals or effects I would also take any suggestions. I'm looking into buying some new gear so I will take any pointers.

Thanks,
The Snake Charmer

killswitch engage or actual killswitch buckethead style?
My pedalboard is worth more than my car, but that doesn't say much for either.

4 monkeys raping eachother while grinding fingernails on chalkboards will get you a killswitch engage sound.
Poop.

Yes, poop.

I think he means killswitch engage the band... I know they used at one point a mesa rectifier... I think that joel uses a Deizel nowadays...

also, i know that they use overdrive pedals (I don't know what type, sorry) with volume and tone set around 4 or 5. and the drive near 7 or 8...

They use lots of amps, but the last two times I saw them, it was a Framus Dragon into a Mesa Cab. I've heard of them using Triamps as well.

How much money are you willing to spend? Killswitch engage has some pretty expensive gear if I'm not mistaken.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

They've used A LOT of gear. Joel is a complete gear ***** and switches amps like crazy.

A quick list of what they've used:

Mesa Rectifier
Splawn Nitro
VHT Ultralead
Framus Cobra
Framus Dragon
Peavey 5150s
Soldano SLO
etc...

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

probably try to get a 5150 that would be your best and cheapest choice, their good amps get an eq pedal and a tube screamer to warm out the tone

God DAMN!

That, with his guitars etc is easily $15,000 upwards.

I wonder when he will start using ENGL and Bogner

But yeah, just get a used 5150. Brutal enough.

KSE has one of the best metal guitar tones, almost anyone with an ear for tone will agree, please go kill yourself.

I'm sure he's used them at some point. His amps pop up for sale every once and a while on Harmony-Central. Last time he sold his Framus Dragon for $1500 shipped with a brand new, never opened, set of tubes.

Hilarious.

You'd better be kidding. Even guitarists that hate metalcore will agree that KsE has some of the sickest metal tone out there. Boosted Cobra is just O_O

He's on harmony central? LOL what's his name on there?
He doesn't sell them on his own. I believe he has one of his friends on there sell them so he doesn't get badgered.

*He* does not have an account, well I'm sure he does, but he doesn't tell anyone, to my knowledge. There is a member on there that takes lessons from him that sells his gear for him, gives you Joel's info so you can talk to him and such, but obviously only to someone who is ready, cash in hand to buy

I'd LOVE to have the current KSE tone. Quite a nice tone IMO

I just can't afford Caparison guitars, nor their amps.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.
