so I just saw this commercial for kid rock, and the song in the commercial was called "all summer long" but it sounded extrremely similar to "sweet home alabama" ... is it a cover or something?

the album was called "rock'n roll jesus" by the way

He sampled the track in his song

It's called an interpolation, TS. Kind of like Michael Jackson's 'mama say mama sa ma mongoosa' in Rihanna's Don't Stop the Music.

I just found it weird that it was so similar...

It's supposed to be though...I think he actually worked with the band and asked their permission to use the track, and he would've had to pay whoever owns the rights as well.

anyone else find it funny that he sampled "Sweet Home Alabama" when the dude's from Detroit?
#12
yeahh its a combo of werewolves of london in the verses and sweet home alabama in the chorus...pretty decent song, but I just dont get him, why cant he make his own backing music....first he used sad but true, now this...and he really hasnt done anything much in music and is just a good example of someone whose still big because hes good at makin friends with bands like lynyrd skynyrd.

Sampling is when they directly cut a piece out of a song, and put it in their's. What Kid Rock and Rihanna did was take the phrase and play/sing it themselves. It's different.

Kid Rock did both.

There is an actual sample of Lynyrd Skynyrd in the song too.

Edit - Having tried to find the bit of the song I was thinking of, and failed, I can only conclude I imagined it.

so basicly... he become friends with bands --- samples parts of said bands in his own songs --- gets rich....

kinda sad

(oh, man the commercial just aired again)

I think he was rich all ready, considering it isn't his first ever song

Like him or not...he hasn't ripped anyone off

Sampling is perfectly normal in music, and it's done a lot of the time...just because this time it's being done by someone you don't like to someone you do like, you can't complain.

If your favourite band decided to sample your second favourite band...you'd probably think it was awesome

Yes, it's done quite often...I can see why you might not agree with it, and that's fine...just never do it yourself

Everyone else can carry on doing whatever they like so long as they're doing it legally

well, I'm glad someone agree's with me

in my opinion it's okay to play cover songs, but when you give it a new name and claim it as your own, I think it's stupid.

The song is essentially a sampling of Werewolves of London and Sweet Home Alabama.
Just to clear that up.
