what would be the heaviest strings suitable for E standard tuning?

Go as heavy or as light as you like, but a good set of 10's or 11's would work fine.

any set really... its best to have a set neck for those heavier strings unless you have extra springs in your tremelo system

Nah, but I think 12-54 is the limit for E-standard, sort of. Be sure to set it up properly though
