I need a new guitar and I have two guitars in mind, the first one being more of a Buckethead style of playing. It's an Ibanez:

Because I want one very close to this video:

The other guitar I had in mind was a custom Les Paul because the top two things I will be playing will be Buckethead songs, and GNR, or Slash type things. So I found this which I thought would work for playing both styles:

I need opinions. Which should I get?

BTW, prices are not my biggest concern so please don't go by prices.

ALRIGHT LET'S SAY THAT I REPLACED THAT IBANEZ WITH A JACKSON AND THAT LES PAUL AT GUITAR CENTER IS 600. THEY ARE THE SAME PRICE, NOW OPINIONS?

the way a guitar looks dont have much effect on sound so id say go with the ibanez, save the money, and teach yourself a wallet over image lesson.

What the ****. What the hell kind of a comparison is this...why are you comparing a 300 dollar ibanez to a 1k Epiphone. Ibanez > Epi...when the price difference is not 700 damn dollars

Wow you guys are ****ing hilarious.

Hilarious.

QUIT LOOKING AT THE GODDAMN PRICES.

Alright say I replaced that Ibanez with a Jackson, for 600. The Les Paul is also 600 at guitar center.

THERE WE GO, SAME PRICE, NOW PLEASE, OPINIONS?

The point people were making was that your comparison was unfair and did not make sense. For 1,000, you could get a much much better guitar than Epiphone. For example....an Ibanez in a similar price range.

Also, if I were you I'd get an Ibanez or Schecter over a Jackson (maybe, depends on the model), and most def over a Epi.

I know this, I didn't explain myself well enough with the price ranges, however, I did ask not to worry about price ranges.

Thanks for the help.

Yea I realize you asked people to not worry about it, but the sheer difference and imbalance makes it very hard for people to give you an insightful comparison between the two

I know that, I actually picked the wrong guitar, the elist, on accident.

So it is, inevitably, my fault, yet again.

i have to be the jerk who says...

WHAT Amp are you using now!?

It's a really old, crappy amp. I got it back when I didn't know the difference between a good amp and a bad amp.

It's a Crate, GX-40M.

I got it like two years ago or so, back when I first started.

Buckethead les pauls' use specially made thin necks. It'll be hard to shred as fast as him with a stock neck.

I recommend an ESP LTD EC-1000, or similar. They're very well built and run about $600-700 new. It has a classic les paul shape, slightly sharper looking. Has 24 frets and a very thin(about ibanez thin) neck. GC doesnt carry esp's if i recall so look elsewhere.

Ok drop your guitar purchasing ideas right now.

A $5,000 guitar will sound like **** through that amp.

On the other hand, a $100 guitar will sound GOOD on a nice amp.

Save for an amp first. I did, and I'm using an Ibanez RG120 through it right now and that guitar sucks, but it sounds great. I'm saving for a guitar now.

Get an amp first it will be worth it.
