A few weeks ago I won a contest with my original song and I get to record it professionally in a famous studio with the 9 other bands that won. So Tomorrow is that day, and I have mixed feelings right now, feeling stressed and relaxed at the same time.
My mother is being really paranoid, acting stupid and pushing me to study for school when I believe this opportunity for a bit of recognition is very important for me. I didn't even get to practice much for the recording and I already believe it's going to go bad.
My band (only me and my bro) had the best song out of the 10 that won, and i'm worried that the recording will go bad.
I got too much school pressure already, and now I got to practice my song that is beyond my playing abilities (I can play it but it's still really hard).

So yeah, any comments to cheer me up or relieve my feelings is appreciated. And if it's possible, could you guys tell me how this professional recording stuff works?

Lito Vitale's studio, I bet you don't know him cause he's only really famous in Argentina. But he is well-known across the world.

It'll go fine. The beauty of recording in a studio is that you record everything in bits, so when you get to a tricky bit, you record that specific bit until you get it right. AND everything can be edited in post production, assuming you have a decent producer with you...which you should have if you won this in a competition, because I doubt they'd let anybody who doesn't know what they're doing try trtial and error on expensive equipment.

And don't worry, play your song through a couple of times, have a cup of tea (or whatever floats your boat), and have a stick of chewing gum at the ready, and a bottle of water (it can get hot in studio's).

Finally, have a good nights sleep, no "I'll go to bed at my normal time of 1.00 am and get up at 7.00" business, or you'll be stressed when you get there.

Also, take a friend with you if you're allowed. They can take your mind off it on the way, and tell you how well it went afterwards

Relax man, it'll all go fine. It's not like you guys are only getting one take. I highly doubt any classic albums of the past few decades were done in one take. Just take it easy, and go through your daily routine as normal.

Just don't worry about it to much, it might be overwhelming but you'll get through it . when ever i had to go in to record something big but didn't have the time to practice before hand i would just think about what i had to do on the instrument a lot and it always seemed like i was able to play it better I'm not saying that it works with everyone but its a suggestion lol. anyways even if nothing works and u don't get to practice remember they picked u for a reason and if u were the best they picked then you'll be the best they'll record . so just try to keep calm really, you'll get to record it a bunch of times to, usually that's how those things work.

By the way if u never recorded before its gonna be a surprise to hear your self lol, just don't get discouraged i'm sure you'll do great.

Yeah, the producer is the best in my country. I'm worried about one thing though. There are bits on my song where the speed is fast, and I can play it at that speed, but since I use heavy distortion and it's played on the 3 low strings (e, a, d) then the distortion will accumulate on top of the other notes and it will sound horrible. I use palm mute when I play that spot in real time. But I don't want it to sound palm muted, I want it to sound good without the palm mute and without any distortion accumulating thus making it possible to hear every note played.
To do this i'd have to play the part slow, and then speed the recording up at the original tempo. Is it possible to do this? Will the producer let me do it if it's possible? I'm asking this because my song will also sell in a CD.

He'll probably let you do that, I know of a few bands who do it. Just hope you don't have to play it live though

I HAVE to play it live in 20 days ahahaha. But that's not my worry since i'll just play it palm muted live. And I got 20 days to practice for live.

Have no worries if you're really nervous then you should actually play better than normally. The adrenaline rush should help you playing, although i'm not sure about a recording studio but i always play better live than when i'm practising.
It's the same with athletes, no one ever broke a record when training because there's no adrenaline rush. Just have fun and enjoy yourself, this doesn't happen every day.

I finished the recording on Wednesday and I'm not 100% satisfying. I just added the beta mix in my profile of the recording in the pro studio.

Yeah it was fun getting to record in a great studio and all, but the mix I got from the song wasn't that good. In most of the song I can't seem to hear that "clean" sound of being able to hear everything I played.
The drums sounded dry and too acoustic, there were no effects added to the drums.

It did sound like recordings made in my country though (which I don't like). It seems they mix things in a different matter.
They didn't let me play slow and speed the recording up which I wanted to do in a bit in the song (I can't explain why they wouldn't let me ahah).

This isn't the final mix they made though. I sent them a mail telling them if they could add some effects to the drum as to make them sound more studio recorded, and so I could hear the bass pedal better.

Oh well, I guess I should look in the positive side of all of this...
