This has fascinated me for some time now. Click the right thumbnail for the pickups situation. I'm wondering if it would have been possible instead if each pickup had its own pot switch volume dial, so you could coil tap each one individually as opposed to universally as that single volume dial does. That would prove more diverse, no? It would also be harder to handle, but the versatility definitely would be there, if the endeavor itself was possible.

I'm also wondering why guitars with multiple pickups, when also featuring a dial for each pickup, has a volume dial as opposed to a tone dial. For example, take the Schecter S-1. It has two volume dials, one for each pickup, and one tone pickup that changes settings for both of them. Why isn't it switched around, so that there are two tone pickups for individual tweaking and a single volume dial that changes the universal volume?
