I have been looking at some Slayer tabs lately. Namely because I'm a n00b and I like to do all the n00b things like learn Raining Blood, etc.

But anyway, how in the world do you train yourself to pick that fast and stay in rhythm?

Just curious.

By practicing it at a slower speed and then increasing the speed once you can play it flawlessly.

I'm not a great guitarest but i've played drums for about 7 years. With drms you start of slow or at a confortable speed that you can play it nearly flawlessly, and gradually increase the speed as your brain become trained to what your trying to play.

as said, use a metronome and build up speed... always the answer to questions like that... also, alternate-pick everything
