Hey guys, after being inspired by gilbert I've purchased the GH100L (no cab yet!) and am going to pick up my PGM301 on friday . I recently bought a TS-9 tubescreamer and tried it through my friends cab using the GH100L and was somewhat dissapointed . We should probably take into account i was using a £350 s series guitar though which has vastly inferior pups to the dmarzios in the PGM

Here comes a few questions, if you had the money would you?

1. Sell the TS9 and get the OCD overdrive?!

2. Would you re-tube the laney GH100L with these, apprently they have alot more punch and are described as EL34'S on steroids, ladies and gentlemen i give you the E34L'S

3. I've seen various Paul Gilbert settings but found them to be very conflicting, such as in one picture the presence is at full whereas in another its at 2/3. What are THE Paul gilbert settings ?

4.Im getting my PGM301 on friday, how significant will my change in tone be from a washburn X50q ( the one without EMG'S )

5. Im plan to get the cab that is recommended with the GH100L, this one

this a wise choice?

6. Would you recommend me saving up for the attenuator Paul uses?

Thanks!

For Paul Gilbert, presence is a must.
Well his "famous tone" is full of presence.
And if you're wanting to nail Paul's exact tone, then yeah, buy the attenuator he uses, but not if you don't need it.
The rest I'm not too skilled on the other things.

Crank that mofo, lots of presence, treble and mids! Gain at full as well, and get some kick ass picking technique.

Get the attenuator first, then you can crank it properly and see what it really sounds like; make judgements on everything else after that.

To my knowledge it doesn't make much/any difference as long as it's matched to the cab you have/are going to get.

Yeah, that's pretty much it but you might want to look into other attenuators; I've heard iffy reports about the THDs, you might want to look into some Weber stuff.
