Exactly what is a 13th chord?
I don't understand the 13 since the western notation only has 12 notes.
Can someone explain it to me?

Chord with the 13th (6th) scale degree
Like a Cmaj13 would be
C E G B D F A
1 3 5 7 9 11 13
but most likely you wont have all those notes, so you would have to omit some
the 5th, and the 9th or 11th usually, although you can take out the root because the bass player will likely cover that
an example of that would be
8 x 8 9 10 x
that would be the fretting it has the root the 7th, the 3rd, and the 13th

Oh thanks I get it now.
I didn't know that after the 7th you'd "restart" the scale.
Thanks alot
