I've always loved Tipton's playing. Highly underrated. Yeah, his picking is very smooth, but he does use a lot of legato as well.

ah i see...
he's using a picking pattern with three strings, basically, he picks a string once, hammers on the rest of the notes, and does the same for the other strings. theres different patterns to do so.
