What are some bands who typically played heavy type songs (i.e. hard rock) but are well known (sometimes even best known) for a ballad (or soft song) they put out? I find that lots of normally heavy-type bands have done this:

Mr. Big - To Be With You
Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing
Guns n Roses - November Rain & Patience

Every Rose Has Its Thorn- Poison
If only summer rain would fall, on the houses and the boulevards
And the sidewalk bagatelles, it's like a dream
With the roar of cars and the lulling of the cafe bars,
The sweetly sleeping sweeping of the Seine...

Cannibal Corpse with I Cum Blood? >_>

nah, i'd say Aerosmith with I Dont Wanna Miss A Thing
When all else fails, ask the pit.

Metallica- Fade to Black, One

They actually get pretty heavy, unlike the 2 songs the other guy said, nothing else matters and unforgiven. Mind you, Unforgiven III is pretty soft..

Hmm, sort of:

Shine On - Jet.

They may have done some ballad-ish stuff prior to this song, but they really hit the charts when "Shine On" was released.

I don't think you understand.

I'm an Opeth fanboy to the core, and I'm not ashamed to say it. I adore Damnation and all prog rock, but I was just saying that they got really big from that album.

Stone Sour - Looking Through the Glass. I dunno how heavy there other stuff is though. That song seemed to be a hit here and heavier than say 30/30 150 or whatever it was.

Then again, Aerosmith isn't really a heavy band, I would say.
