What mode is used in Dick Dale's "Misirlou?" I can't figure it out.
In case you don't know, the notes are E F G# A B C Eb.
I think it's in the key of E, but I'm not sure because I can't figure out what mode he uses.

well, it's R, b2, Maj3, 4, 5, b6, Maj7 (I think). No idea what it is, but it sounds very eastern. Some form of Major mode?

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

seems like a cross between harmonic minor and phrygian dominant....so yeah it would sound really eastern

So it's not a very common mode. Do you suppose Dick Dale came up with it when writing the song then?

No, I'm pretty sure the song is Egyptian or something.
